Nuova Simonelli Standard Portafilter Complete 2 Spout 98005022 - Compatible with Aurelia, Appia, Musica - Double Spout Espresso Machine Portafilter with Two Outlets

Product Overview

This portafilter is a direct replacement for several Nuova Simonelli models, including the Aurelia, Appia, and Musica series. Its two-spout design is ideal for cafes that serve double espresso shots, ensuring consistent volume and portafilter handling. The included filter basket is reusable and compatible with ground coffee, fitting the standard 58mm group head common in commercial espresso machines. The portafilter is finished in silver with a modern style, and the handle combines plastic and rubber materials. One reviewer noted that although the handle feels solid initially, moisture can seep between the plastic and rubber, leading to mold over time. Regular cleaning with a bleach soak is recommended to prevent this. The portafilter weighs enough to feel sturdy, but some users experienced the handle becoming loose after several months of heavy use. At roughly $99, it sits at a premium price point compared to generic alternatives, but the genuine fit and compatibility justify the cost for many owners who prioritize longevity and consistency in their espresso workflow.

Build & Materials

The Nuova Simonelli portafilter is built with a chrome-plated brass body, a material chosen for its durability and heat retention. The two spouts are integrated into the body, and the handle is made from a combination of plastic and rubber for a comfortable, non-slip grip. The overall weight provides a balanced feel when locked into the group head. However, the junction between the plastic and rubber parts of the handle is a potential weak point; one reviewer noted that moisture can accumulate there, leading to mold growth. This can be managed by thorough drying after each use and periodic cleaning with a diluted bleach solution.

The included filter basket is a standard single-wall design, suitable for use with ground coffee. The portafilter's overall dimensions are compact, making it easy to store and handle. The silver finish matches the aesthetic of most commercial espresso machines. While the handle feels secure initially, some users have reported the handle becoming loose after several months, requiring tightening or replacement. This appears to be a wear issue rather than a design flaw, but it is worth considering for high-volume environments.
