Urnex Cafiza Espresso Machine Cleaning Powder Review — Professional-Grade Review

Urnex Cafiza is the industry-standard cleaning powder for espresso machines, used by baristas and coffee shops worldwide for its reliable ability to eliminate coffee oil buildup. This pack contains twelve 20-ounce bottles, providing a substantial supply for frequent cleaning schedules. Cafiza is formulated to target the hardened oils and residues that accumulate on group heads, valves, and internal lines, which can negatively affect espresso flavor and machine performance. The powder dissolves easily in hot water and rinses clean, leaving no odor or aftertaste. For home espresso enthusiasts and commercial operators alike, regular cleaning with Cafiza can extend machine life and ensure consistently great-tasting espresso. The product is unscented and fume-free, making it safe for use in enclosed spaces. While primarily designed for espresso machines, some users have reported success using it on other metal surfaces, though this is not the manufacturer's intended use.

Product Overview

Cafiza is a powdered cleaning agent developed specifically for espresso machines. It comes in a 20-ounce bottle with a sprinkler cap for easy dispensing. The recommended use is to backflush the cleaning solution through the group head to dislodge oils and residues from internal components. The powder is highly concentrated—users often report that a small amount goes a long way, making the 12-pack an economical choice for high-volume environments. The formula is balanced to provide powerful cleaning while being safe for the machine's seals and gaskets when used as directed. It is also fragrance-free, which is important for not altering the taste of subsequent brews. Cafiza is suitable for use on metal components like stainless steel and brass, but users should avoid contact with aluminum or delicate plastic parts unless specified by the machine manufacturer. The product is manufactured by Urnex Brands Inc., a company known for professional coffee and espresso cleaning products. With a weight of 17.4 pounds for the pack of 12, this is a substantial purchase best suited for users who clean their machines regularly, such as coffee shops or dedicated home baristas. The powder has a very long shelf life when stored in a cool, dry place. Although the customer review count is low, those who have used it praise its effectiveness on stubborn residues, even beyond espresso machines, such as on oven pans and stainless steel cookware.

Urnex Cafiza is a staple in the coffee industry for good reason. It reliably cleans espresso machines, restoring both taste and function. The concentrated formula means a single bottle lasts many cleaning cycles, making the 12-pack a smart investment for heavy users. While the upfront cost is higher than some alternatives, the effectiveness and safety justify the price. Home users who clean weekly may prefer a single bottle, but this pack is ideal for coffee shops or enthusiasts who want to stock up. Overall, Cafiza delivers on its promise without gimmicks.

This cleans ANYTHING and does a SUPER job
I have never used a cleaner that cleans EVERYTHING, and I mean CLEANS. I thought it might do a good job on greasy cooked-on residue left on old roasting pans—the oily residue that seems to have bonded with the metal. Even oven cleaner wouldn't budge it. After a few soakings alternating with scrubbing with copper pads, the pans are looking good. I have a French Press coffee maker (stainless steel), and I use it on that; it does a beautiful job cleaning the screen on the plunger, so the pot stays looking new and the coffee is always FRESH tasting. I have used it on everything from soap residue in the tub to cleaning chrome and brushed nickel faucets. It cleans oven doors and the oven bottom if I have a spill over. This is only a pound, but use it sparingly—mere sprinkles (it has a sprinkle side on the cap) will astonish you. REALLY GOOD STUFF!!! Reviewing this, I see I forgot to mention the kitchen sink... it cleans that too!
