Capresso Café TS Touchscreen Espresso Machine Review — Compact Review

The Capresso Café TS is a compact, touchscreen-controlled espresso machine designed for home baristas who want a simple, automated way to brew single or double shots and steam milk for lattes and cappuccinos. Its 15-bar ThermoBlock heating system heats water on demand, delivering hot espresso quickly. The machine’s streamlined design and intuitive presets make it accessible for beginners, while the steam wand offers manual control for frothing. With a 50-ounce removable water tank and a space-saving footprint, it suits small kitchens. However, user reviews raise concerns about long-term durability and the steam wand’s size, so it’s best suited for casual use.

Product Overview

The Capresso Café TS stands out with its touchscreen interface, offering four presets for single and double espresso, steam, and hot water. The 15-bar stainless steel-lined Thermoblock heats water instantly, so you don't wait long for your shot. The steam wand is manual but compact, which some users find too short for standard frothing pitchers. The 50-ounce water tank is removable and has a folding handle for easy refilling. The machine accepts both ground coffee and pods via a reusable filter. Dimensions at 14 by 12.5 by 10.8 inches and weighing 8 pounds, it fits easily on most countertops. The stainless steel and black finish looks sleek, but some reviewers note the build quality feels less premium than higher-priced competitors. Cleaning is straightforward, but the portafilter and baskets can rust if left wet. The machine includes a 30-minute auto shut-off for energy savings. It lacks smart features and is best suited for those who want a straightforward espresso experience without a steep learning curve.

Shot Quality

The Café TS produces espresso that many users describe as hot, rich, and bold with a good crema when using fresh coffee. The 15-bar pressure extracts flavors efficiently, and the Thermoblock ensures temperature stability during brewing. However, reviewers note that the machine requires a brief cooldown period between brewing and steaming, which can cool the espresso if made first. The single and double shot volumes are pre-programmed but not adjustable, which led to bitter shots for some who found the extraction time too long.

The steam wand performance is mixed. It produces adequate foam but is short, making it difficult to heat milk in larger pitchers. Users report inconsistent steam quality and a long wait for the machine to be ready after brewing. Several reviewers experienced mechanical issues like steam dial failure and water leakage after a few months, raising concerns about long-term reliability. For routine use, the machine delivers satisfactory results, but it may not satisfy enthusiasts seeking precise control.

The Verdict

6.5

The Capresso Café TS offers an attractive entry point for those wanting a simple, touchscreen-operated espresso machine. It delivers hot espresso and steam with minimal fuss, and the compact size is a plus. However, build quality concerns and the flawed steam wand design limit its long-term appeal. For occasional use and budget-conscious buyers, it provides passable performance. But if you plan daily lattes, investing in a sturdier machine may save frustration. Score: 6.5/10.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I clean the Capresso Café TS?
Regularly clean the portafilter and baskets after use to prevent rust. Descale the machine every few months with a descaling solution. The drip tray and water tank are removable and dishwasher-safe.
Can I use pre-ground coffee and pods?
Yes, the reusable filter works with ground coffee. For pods, you need an optional adapter (sold separately). The machine is not compatible with standard ESE pods without an adapter.
Why is there a long wait between espresso and steam?
The machine needs to cool down or heat up between brewing and steaming. This is a common issue with single-boiler Thermoblock systems. You can reduce wait by using a separate electric frother.
Does the machine have an auto shut-off?
Yes, it automatically turns off after 30 minutes of inactivity to save energy. The setting cannot be changed.
What size is the water tank?
The water tank holds 50 ounces (1.5 liters) and has a folding handle for easy carrying. It is removable for filling.
Can I adjust the shot volume?
No, the single and double shot volumes are pre-programmed (approximately 1 oz and 2 oz). Users cannot adjust the brew time, which may lead to over-extraction with some coffee.
What is the warranty?
Capresso offers a one-year limited warranty on parts and labor. Some users report difficulty reaching customer service for claims.

Great coffee machine, works perfectly
Despite already drinking too much coffee, I bought this and it's fantastic. The coffee tastes excellent. Does anyone have recommendations for good sleep aids?
Stay away - not worth your money
I bought this machine in July 2022 and was initially impressed. However, the frothing wand is too small to heat milk properly, and the portafilter and filters rusted quickly. After five months, the espresso flow became weak, producing bitter shots. Customer service was hard to reach; the seller helped arrange repairs. I replaced it with a Breville Bambino Plus and noticed a significant quality difference. It's better to invest in a more expensive machine than waste money on a cheap one that will need replacement.
Perfect Machine for Hot, Delicious Coffee!
This machine is wonderful! It's simple to operate and brews coffee with an ideal texture. The coffee is hot, rich, and bold, reminiscent of café quality. Highly recommended!
