KitchenAid KF6 Fully Automatic Espresso Machine Review — 15 Recipe Review

The KitchenAid KF6 (model KES8556) is a fully automatic espresso machine that brings cafe-quality drinks home without the learning curve of a semi-automatic. It targets coffee enthusiasts who want convenience without sacrificing taste. With 15 recipe options and an integrated grinder, it handles everything from espresso to lattes at the push of a button. The machine features automatic milk frothing via a separate container, so you can skip manual steaming. Its metal-clad construction promises durability, and a two-year warranty backs the investment. Users appreciate the quiet operation and easy cleaning, noting that it competes well with machines costing much more. At $1,199.99, it sits in the mid-range of super-automatics, offering a balance of cost, quality, and ease of use.

Product Overview

For those upgrading from a drip machine or a basic espresso maker, the KitchenAid KF6 simplifies the daily coffee ritual. You fill the removable bean hopper—which twists off easily for emptying or switching beans—add water to the 2.2-liter tank, and press a button. The machine grinds, brews, and froths milk automatically, delivering a consistent cup with decent crema. The water tank slides out from the side, making it easier to refill under cabinets than top-fill designs. However, the machine's 18.5-inch depth means you must measure your counter space carefully; it may not fit in shallow cabinets. There is a bypass doser for pre-ground coffee, useful for decaf or a different blend without emptying the hopper. The included water filter reduces scale buildup, and the machine prompts regular cleaning cycles. The touchscreen interface is intuitive, allowing you to customize strength, length, and temperature, and save up to multiple user profiles. Users note that the grinder is noticeably quieter than many competitors like Jura or Bosch. The automatic milk frothing uses a tube placed in a separate container; it heats and froths with one touch, though some reviewers miss the control of a steam wand. Overall, the KF6 is a solid mid-range automatic that prioritizes convenience and offers good coffee for daily drinkers.

Build & Materials

The KitchenAid KF6 uses a metal-clad construction that feels solid and premium. The body is wrapped in a durable metallic finish (Porcelain White in this model) that resists fingerprints and wipes clean easily. The top houses the removable bean hopper, which twists and lifts off for quick swapping of beans without spilling. Beneath the hopper, the ceramic burr grinder is designed for longevity and quiet operation. The 2.2-liter water tank is located on the right side, with a clear window to check levels. It slides out for easy filling, even under cabinets. The front features a full-color touchscreen display that is responsive and intuitive, with icons for drink selection and settings. The milk system uses a silicone tube that connects to a separate container; the machine includes a milk tube and cleaning tablets. Overall, the build emphasizes convenience and durability, though some plastic components are used internally. The machine measures 18.5 by 10.2 by 14.3 inches and weighs about 30 pounds, so it requires a dedicated spot on the counter.

Cleaning and maintenance are integral to the design. The brew unit is accessible and removable for rinsing under running water. The machine automatically prompts cleaning cycles after a set number of brews, and the drip tray and spent grounds container are easy to empty. The included water filter helps reduce scaling, and the descaling program is straightforward. The design is user-centric, with attention to reducing daily hassle.

Excellent balance of cost, quality, and convenience.
This coffee maker offers a great compromise between price, performance, and ease of use. After six months of daily use, it consistently makes good coffee and is simple to operate and clean. I appreciate the flexibility of using whole beans in the hopper or adding pre-ground coffee for my wife's decaf without removing my beans. The only downside is that the coffee isn't as hot as some might prefer, but a quick microwave solves that. Overall, given the taste, convenience, and reasonable cost, this is a solid choice that also looks great on the counter.
Excellent Coffee and It's Truly Hot!
Update: after two weeks, it stopped working. I returned it and got a new one, hoping it was just a faulty unit. Will update. I did extensive research between this machine, De'Longhi, and Philips. This was the best choice. It's so easy to use, functional, and attractive! Get it! The coffee is amazing and genuinely hot. Other machines don't offer the same options; this one has low, medium, and hot settings, which is fantastic. Cleaning is a breeze too.
Impressive Value KitchenAid Espresso Machine Exceeds Expectations
I've used high-end Jura machines at work and a Breville at home, so I know good espresso. I tried a Bosch 300 Series but found the coffee lacking in heat and crema. After testing a friend's KitchenAid with our beans, I was impressed enough to buy one. A month in, it delivers hot coffee (adjustable temp works well), decent crema (not as much as Jura or Breville but sufficient), and is quieter than Bosch and Jura. Features like a removable bean hopper, easy cleaning, and a side water tank (great for under-cabinet placement) are bonuses. Multiple user settings speed up drink preparation. So far, no complaints—time will tell on long-term durability.
